I apologize for our very long break in updates... we have not forgotten our blog, we've just been super busy with life, but also visiting places to blog about! Thanks for your patience in waiting for an update!
At the end of June, Mark and I packed up our stuff and headed south on I-71 to Columbus. It had been my first time in a very long time, and Mark's first time ever. We made our target destination the Ohio Statehouse, then played the rest of the day by ear. We ended up spending most of the day at or near the Statehouse... we truly enjoyed spending our day there.
The Ohio Statehouse is a fabulous place. It's one of the oldest functioning statehouses in the country. It was completed in 1861 and is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture. The rotunda is absolutely stunning, along with the rest of the interior decor. It's fabulous!
The Ohio Statehouse has very strong ties to Abraham Lincoln, as Lincoln made three appearances there: once during his campaign, once as President Elect and once in April 1865, where his body laid in state in the rotunda. There, one may also view one of the few sculptures that Lincoln posed for in his lifetime. It is on display in the Rotunda.
I strongly encourage all Ohioans (and non-Ohioans alike!!) to visit the statehouse. Free tours are given daily. Check out their website at OhioStatehouse.org for further information. I think that the statehouse makes the drive to Columbus well worth it (plus, since it's free and parking in the statehouse garage is reasonable, it makes for a super-cheap day trip!!)
I promise more frequent blog updates. We have tons of things to share with you!!
